About Chef Ed
Bao Bao Buns chef, Edward Zhang, specializes in providing global tastes for the Midwest foodie. With his roots based in Hong Kong and China, Ed combines Cantonese and Sichuan flavors with the Western cooking techniques he learned throughout his travels around the world.
The end result is something completely unexpected — but always delicious. Find him around the Twin Cities doing bao pop-ups as well as tasting menu pop-ups in unexpected locations.
Catering FAQs
What kind of events do you cater for?
We cater for a variety of events including grad parties, corporate events, wedding dinners and late night snacks, anniversary parties, birthday parties and more!
How far in advance do I need to book my event?
We suggest booking at least 30 days in advance. Our schedule fills up quickly, especially in the summer, so reaching out as soon as possible is ideal.
How do I reserve my date?
To reserve your date, we require a 50% deposit with the other 50% due 14 days before the event. We will retain deposits for events cancelled within two weeks of the reserved date.
Is there a minimum order/cost?
Our minimum order is 200 baos at $4/bao ($800). This includes a side, condiments, cooking baos on site, set up, take down and clean up.
What does your catering service include?
Our service includes a menu consultation, setup, steaming baos on site, serving, clean up, and take down. We also provide serving materials. Mileage is included within a 20 mile radius of Hopkins, MN.
How many baos should I order?
Depending on how many food options you plan on having, we find that 2-3 baos/person is filling. If you're going to have multiple food options, then we suggest 1-2 baos/person.
Can I choose my bao flavors?
We can provide up to 3 flavors of your choice! We highly suggest including Swine & Dine (our most traditional flavor) in the mix.
Can you provide food other than baos?
Yes! Chef Ed is well versed in a variety of cooking styles. Please reach out and let us know what style of food you'd like for your event.
What is your catering experience?
We cater weekly at large corporations like Target, General Mills and Best Buy.
How far will you drive for an event?
We will drive a max of 150 miles from our kitchen in Hopkins. Mileage is included in the service fee for events within a 20 mile radius. We charge an additional 70 cents per mile outside of the 20 mile radius.
What are the next steps for booking?

Do you charge for sales tax and credit cards fees?
Yes! Sales tax will be charged based on the service location. If paying with a credit or debit card, a 3% processing fee will also be added.

Cost varies depending on your event needs. The cost for a private tasting menu is $150/person which includes 5-courses and non-alcoholic drink pairings.

Is there a minimum and maximum number of guests I can have?
We require a minimum of 6 guests for private parties. We can book private parties for any number of guests, however, the style of service may vary for larger groups.
